With devoted fans, UK support tours, 02 Academy tours, festival appearances and several record breaking gigs under his belt, Stephen Langstaff is rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most prolific singer songwriters. Stephen began writing and performing his work from the tender age of 11 and has ever since had a burning passion to create. His songs are powerful and subtle. Instantly engaging, he offers evocative and haunting melodies, brimming over with bare emotion.
His voice is unique. Stephen’s soulful style has earned him comparisons with artists like Jeff Buckley and Tori Amos, both favourites of his alongside Nirvana and Tracy Chapman. Like these artists, Stephen blesses the listener with something honest and direct.
Stephen made his festival debut in 2007 at The Wicker Man in Scotland and was asked back in 2008. He sold out the Liverpool O2 Academy 2 and went on to become the first unsigned singer songwriter to headline the O2 Academy main room. He headlined there no less than 3 times throughout 2008. His roster of supports so far includes The Lightning Seeds, The Wombats, Peter Bjorn and John. He’s also supported 80’s legends The Bangles and Deacon Blue.
2009 brought another sold-out 02 Academy show and more festival appearances including a debut at the Greenbelt Festival. In the summer he performed for the Liverpool Summer Pops festival at the 2 biggest and most prestigious venues in his hometown the Philharmonic Hall and the Echo Arena. His confidence shone and the large audiences were wooed by Stephen’s easy onstage charisma. In Autumn 2009, he was invited to do his first national tour on the 02 'Academy Live' tour, designed to promote the UK’s newest and most exciting artists.
Already in 2010, Stephen has toured the UK with fellow Liverpudlians The Lightning Seeds, to great acclaim:
Langstaff follows in the tradition of the hardworking singer songwriter. He is breath a of fresh air in these days of mass marketed idols. He continues to build on his already burgeoning fanbase with gigs, press coverage and radio play around the country as well as good old fashioned word of mouth and who could blame anyone for not being able to keep quiet about him. He has the songs and he has the voice. This ambitious artist from Liverpool is the city’s worst kept secret.
